About the chef
Chef Alexis Hernández grew up with Cuban flavors at the center of the table, and food has stayed with him ever since. His career has taken him from family kitchens to appearances on Food Network Star, Cutthroat Kitchen, and CNN. But he is just as happy standing over a Staub pot on a rainy day.
After more than twenty years in professional kitchens, he now writes about what stays with us after the meal is over: flavor, memory, and the way food ties people to a place, a moment, or each other.
He calls Tampa Bay home, where his puppy Misa keeps an eye on the kitchen from the doorway. Through The Other Side of the Stove, he shares essays, kitchen notes, and honest cooking for people who care more about flavor than trends. His writing has also appeared in News of SCC
